Sife Monash

EcoChallenge

Our CSIRO-sponsored EcoChallenge project aims to provide talented people with the opportunity to develop professionally and to experience first-hand the process of developing a successful financial literacy program. It is aimed at assisting a network of people in developing commercially viable and eco-friendly projects within.

The EcoChallenge project will work in several stages.

Stage 1 will include conducting workshops with five different networks of individuals. These workshops revolve around discussions concerning major environmental and economical issues that are affecting the targeted network.

Stage 2 is aimed at providing young people (one of our chosen networks) with the opportunity to develop professional skills and experience economics in action. It is a unique co-operative effort between SIFE Monash and selected Victorian secondary schools, which is aimed at developing commercially viable and eco-friendly projects.

We seek to engage students into the possibility of a tertiary education whilst exposing them to consideration of today’s environmental challenges in a business-minded way.

This will involve three schools, with ten students per school. The participating students will become involved in interactive seminars which will be aimed at teaching the basics of supply and demand, consumer value and marketing. Students will then develop an environmentally friendly product which will be presented to a judging panel consisting of corporate and industry sponsors. We hope that once established, we can expand our financial literacy concepts to more schools and our other networks.
